Never Had You

Behind The Song

Do you remember when you were little, maybe in kindergarten? You and your friend that you made 5 minutes ago promise you’ll be friends forever. There are those who are blessed and keep that promise but unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. While I was in collage I had the opportunity to make a lot of friends and I only retained maybe 5% of those friends. Not because of a terrible falling out or drama.. just because people move, they get jobs, they get busy. Well some where inside of me I still had that child like promise to these friends. That they would always be my friend and I would always be their’s. I came to the realization that I never made that promise and neither did they. We were only supposed to be friends for that season and that’s okay.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
(Where did you go)
(I can’t see you anymore)
(Hm)
I waited for you to come
I searched for you everywhere but you were no where to be found
My mind slipped through time and through space
(space space space)
Trying to make sense
Of all that’s out of place
Why did you go why’d you leave
(where did you go)
You promised that you would never leave me

Chorus:
Maybe it was a shadow
(look what you left behind)
I thought your words were true
(I miss you)
It must have been my imagination
( tell me you love me too)
You never said those words
I guess I lied to myself
(lies lies lies)
The lie made me a victim of you
( I only want the truth)
You never left me
I never had you

Verse 2
The smiles and the laughs that we shared
Are momentos of seasons that never felt bare
I see now it was a bittersweet gift
(thank you)
Something that i never truly possessed
Maybe we are made of seasons
They’re only there for a short time for a reason

(Instrumental)

Chorus2:
Maybe it was a shadow
(wasn’t a shadow)
I thought your words were true
( they were true)
It must have been my imagination
( it was only for a season though)
You never said those words
You did tell me you love me
(I love you)
And those words ill always cherish with me
(with me)
Maybe you did leave me
 But I never had you
